ZYN ULTRA Explained: Strengths, Flavors and FDA Status

ZYN ULTRA is a separate product line from core ZYN, not a strength tier of it. It is higher in strength, moist rather than dry, and a larger pouch, and it comes in a 20-pouch can. FDA authorized 11 ZYN ULTRA products on August 21, 2026.
ZYN ULTRA versus core ZYN
Strength: core ZYN has a marketing granted order at 3mg and 6mg; ZYN ULTRA is authorized at 9mg, with 11mg in one flavor only.
Moisture: core ZYN is dry; ZYN ULTRA is moist, so it releases faster and feels softer.
Size: according to FDA's order documents, a core ZYN pouch weighs 0.40 grams and measures about 28 by 14 millimeters, while a ZYN ULTRA pouch weighs 0.8 grams and measures about 34 by 14.5 millimeters.
Which ZYN ULTRA products FDA has authorized
Ten products at 9mg, in the flavors FDA lists as Cool Mint, Spearmint, Wintergreen, Peppermint, Citrus, Chill, Menthol, Smooth, Deep Freeze and Wintergreen Chill, and one at 11mg, Smooth. FDA's names are not always the retail names. According to the manufacturer, the lineup is sold as Arctic Mint, Fresh Spearmint, Wintergreen Blast, Peppermint Frost, Citrus Zest, Chill Mist, Menthol Ice and Signature Smooth.
Signature Smooth is the only ZYN ULTRA flavor authorized at 11mg. The manufacturer has said other 11mg varieties are still under review, so a ZYN ULTRA product at 11mg in any other flavor is not on FDA's list.
Choosing between them
A higher number means more nicotine per pouch, not a better one, and nicotine is addictive at any strength. If you are comparing, start with our strength guide and the full FDA-authorized list, and use the compare tool to put core ZYN and ZYN ULTRA side by side.
